#3. Only Take What You Need When you are out and Leave the Rest Locked Up

Good morning and welcome to Safetrip Transport Ltd. We are discussing the third tip on the series ‘Safety tips for Women when travelling’ today. The previous ones can be accessed on the embedded links here. My advice today is a follow up on yesterday’s own where I wrote about why you need to keep your valuables with you when you are in transit.

When you have safely arrived at your destination and you have secured a suitable lodging, you would definitely want to go out especially if you are on holiday. When you do go out anyway, even for a walk, there’s no need to go in the city with all of your credit cards, your passport, and huge cash! Any amount equivalent of $500 in cash is not acceptable for you to carry around. Take what you need for the day: maybe around $50, tops, and a debit card, and keep the rest locked up in your accommodation.

Almost every reputable hotel has lockers available for guests. Use them if they have them. If you are in guesthouses, hotel rooms, or other places that don’t have a locker or safe for you, use a portable safe instead. You can have a slash-proof bag in which you fill your valuables with and lock to a pipe or something else sturdy in the room.

I agree that this doesn’t eliminate the risk 100% (if a professional criminal is determined to rob you, he will rob you), but you must realize that most criminals are opportunistic. If you remove the opportunity by being proactive, they’ll go after someone else who left his or her valuables out in the open, much more easily accessible to them.

That’s it for today. I hope my message makes any sense to you. Please share if it does.
